Alta Alella Wines
notes from the producer:
Family, respect and avant-garde
Alta Alella is the closest winery to Barcelona, family-run and organically farmed.
Set in the midst of the Serralada de Marina Natural Park, a step from the Mediterranean Sea and just a few miles away from Barcelona, stands the ALTA ALELLA MIRGIN winery, the dream-come-true of the Pujol-Busquets Guilléns.
A family that has always been dedicated to viticulture. Josep Maria and Cristina have spent their whole lives sharing the wine and cava culture. Their daughters Mireia and Georgina grew up surrounded by vineyards, grapes, harvests and bottles. It’s in their DNA. Knowledge, passion, perseverance and dedication. A lifestyle.
It’s a way of understanding wine and cava responsibly by making it entertaining, innovative while also adopting a real taste for new trends. They are committed to nature, so they offer an avant-garde product. Their respect for the land becomes the celebration of a new experience.
PB (Pansa Blanca aka Xarello)
WinemakingWhite wine made from organic grapes from the Pansa Blanca variety (otherwise known as Xarel·lo). The grapes are harvested in healthy conditions, making it possible to have a short maceration at a very low temperature in order to obtain a good extraction of flavours. The grapes are lightly pressed to obtain the first pressing must, then is fermented in stainless steel vats at low temperature.
A very rainy spring caused a great vegetative growth with the consequent problems of fungal attacks on the grapes, especially mildew, causing an exceptional limited production in our area. Also noteworthy are the losses of grapes caused by wild boars: the pandemic and confinement reduced the management of forest areas, leading to the reproduction and disinhibition of those animals, which have been present in vineyards where they had never been seen. Low-yields vineyards combined with the intense heat of August have produced a very fast grape ripening, becoming the earliest harvest in the last few years. A vintage with reduced harvest and good quality
Sight - Pale yellow with green hues.
Nose - Very intense nose due to the special characteristics of the vintage. Floral aromas of white fruit (apple and pear) predominate with a background of green almond, fennel and ripe lemon.
Palate - Voluminous with a sweetish entry, recalling the aromas of ripe white fruit with a saline point. Good acidity and a lingering aftertaste.
Organic red wine, made from Garnatxa Negra variety. After destemming, the grapes begin a process of maceration-fermentation for 15 days at 22°C in stainless steel tanks to extract the maximum of fruity aromas. Afterwards, the grapes are gently pressed and, once finished the malolactic fermentation in vats, the wine is immediately bottled.
Ideal weather conditions during the vegetative cycle in Alta Alella’s vineyards allowed an extraordinary plant development. The intense heat at the end of July caused a positive stop on the vines’ growth with no water stress thanks to the reserves from the spring rains. During the summer, well-dosed precipitations combined with lower temperatures than previous years, allowed an optimum grape ripening. All in all, it has been a vintage with balanced yields, exceptional healthy grapes and maximum quality.
Sight - Cherry colour with purple hues.
Nose - Aromas of red fruit are detected, recalling the floral (violet) aromas.
Palate - Very fruity, recalling the red fruits, fresh and well balanced. Fruity after-taste with soft tannins.
