A.D. Beckham Wines
About the producer:
Thirty minutes south of Portland, winding roads lead to a hilltop in Oregon’s Chehalem Mountains. With steeply pitched, dramatic panoramic views, Beckham Estate Vineyard is the culmination of the evolving vision and dedication of Andrew and Annedria Beckham. Upon moving in 2004 with the intent of building a ceramics studio, they became inspired by the local farming community and in 2005 began clearing and planting the property surrounding their home. While consciously leaving riparian zones for natural habitat and wildlife the Beckhams progressively expanded the vineyard to nearly half of their 34 acres including 6 grape varietals while also constructing a tasting room, winery, and fully functioning ceramics studio. We planted and farm Pinot Noir, Trousseau Noir, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Aligoté, Gamay Noir and a very small test block of Italian varietals.
Beckham Estate is likely the only winery in the world where the production of the terra cotta vessels for fermenting and aging is on-site, and is integrated with the farming and production of the wines.
The wines produced under the A.D. Beckham label have fermented and aged primarily in Andrew’s hand-made clay amphorae. A convergence of passions – farming, ceramics, and winemaking, these wines are full of energy and texture while aiming to purely represent the grapes that compose them. This label exemplifies the influence of thousands of years of human history making wine in clay vessels. For this label, we will occasionally work with other vineyards that share our farming philosophies in order to explore the expression of different grape varietals in Andrew’s Novum. All wines are fermented with native yeasts, are un-fined, and contain minimal added sulphites.

This lively and energetic wine can be a beautiful challenge to describe, once open it is ever dancing around. The color almost matches the terra-cotta vessels it was raised in but when the sun hits the glass just right it glows. A savory strawberry/apricot jam and grapefruit pith surrounded by the most lovely garden of herbs and a hint of dried tea. Wonderful dusty tannins persist through the elegant finish. Serve at cellar temperature but not too cold.
2018 Aequalis Amphora Pinot Gris-Pinot NoirHarvest Date: September 2019Bottle date: August 2020Release date: September 2020Alc: 11.8%50% Beckham Estate Pinot Noir and 50% Pinot Gris, Willamette Valley40 day native fermentation on skins in amphora, pressed and returned to age in amphora for 9 months
Production: 175 casesBottled un-fined and unfiltered
Pinot Noir fruit from our estate and Pinot Gris from our neighbors at Carabella Vineyard co-fermented on skins in amphora for 40 days, pressed and returned to amphora then bottled un-fined and un-filtered. Clear pale ruby in color, with dusty strawberries and a hint of eucalyptus and tea on the nose. Warm summer strawberries, apricots and earth on the palate surrounded by baking spices and juicy acidity that pulls through to the finish. The Aequalis not Pinot noir or Pinot gris but a beautiful bright expression of both. The more we get to know this wine the more complex it becomes. We are pretty excited to share it with you and hope you love it as much as we do.
